Summer Youth Employment Program

This summer forty teenagers from the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) are working with Word of Life International, Inc., for seven weeks seeking to create awareness of obesity and asthma in the Bronx community. They teach risk reduction of these ever-increasing health problems and reach out to our community residents where they live. The presentations are made at houses of worship, daycare centers, public housings, shelters, food pantries and soup kitchens. The Youth have designed and intend to produce flyers and brochures on the health risks of obesity and asthma .  In addition, we will source and obtain additional literatures on asthma and obesity to distribute during our community outreach events. The seven campaign culminated with a health fair that was held on August 14, 2010. Several human services organizations participated in the event.

The Youth also work daily on the Food Pantry Program supporting efforts to provide food to over 8,000 household members every month.
